Research and Planning - Further Double Page Spread Research

Recently, I have been further researching double page spreads in preparation of making my own for my music magazine. Both of these double page spreads above are taken from different music magazines, however they are very similar. They both share the same fonts (Serif) and main colours (which consists of white, blue and black). Furthermore, a large proportion of the pages are covered with the featured artist. Another thing I notice in these magazines, is the very large font of the music artists name, so when the reader comes across this page they know exactly who its featured on.

I will be referring some of these techniques into my own double page spread!

Research and Planning - Experimenting Front Cover Ideas 7

In the process of making my music front cover for my magazine, I have changed the colour of the font into a brighter red. Furthermore, I have changed the layout of the cover lines, positioning them to the right hand side of the page. This automatically gives it a more presentable and life like image portrayal of a music magazines front cover.

From my last posts, I explained how I had researched a little more about fonts and how they are used in Indie music magazines. From there, I have currently changed the font to a serif font, making it more readable. Furthermore, I have been experimenting with the colour of fonts, changing it between white and the same as the title, Chocolate, red.

From recent feedback I received, it was brought to my attention that the majority of Indie music magazines have capitalised fonts, helping certain articles and stories stand out. This is proven by the popular Indie magazine article, NME, above as both of these front covers fonts are capitalised. Furthermore the font seems to be Serif, making it easier to read.
Therefore, I adapted my process of my front cover so far, changing the fonts so they are capitalised. I may further change the style of font and colour so it suits to the genre more.

From my recent posts and updates, I realised i was losing the genre style of indies touch. Therefore I changed the font colour to a red to help the magazine look more its genre!

In the process of making my music magazine front cover, I changed certain font sizes and places for a better fitting and a more realistic magazine looking cover. You can see this through the photos below.

For my front cover I started experimenting with different fonts and the placing of them. However, I really disliked the outcome I had even though it was just a first draft using Photoshop. My model on the font cover really looked like she had been copied onto the background, giving it a really unrealistic look.

From this I decided to experiment using my original photo and background. It overall looks better and is more eye catching and realistic.

This is the beginning process of my magazine cover. I edited part of my models face and cropped out her figure to place on a simple grey background (a popular colour from my questionnaire).

Research and Planning - Masthead Ideas

I have further been developing and experimenting my music magazine colours and fonts for the front cover of my music magazine.
Here I have gone with colour grey/silver as well as the font Andale Mono, which I think really suits the genre of magazine that I am making.

Research and Planning - Model Head Shots (Before And After Photoshop)

Below is the photograph i'm thinking of using for the front cover of my music magazine. I have been playing around with my model using photoshop, to help her look her best on the front cover. As you can see, a few blemishes and spots have been removed.

Research and Planning - Drawn Redrafts Of Music Magazine Shaped By Audience Feedback

Here are the redrawn drafts of both my front cover and contents page of my music magazine, shaped by my target audience research! You will notice I have made a few minor changes to the contents of what will be featured in the magazine, as well as the design.
